Warriors Split Day 2 of Brescia Tournament

Owensboro, KY — Webber International split a Saturday doubleheader hosted in Owensboro, falling to Oakland City in the morning before bouncing back with a four-set win over Brescia in the afternoon. The Warriors dropped the opener to the Mighty Oaks, 1–3 (23–25, 23–25, 25–18, 20–25), then answered with a 3–1 victory over the Bearcats (25–12, 15–25, 25–17, 25–16).

In the neutral-site matchup with Oakland City, Webber piled up 48 kills and 92 digs but couldn't quite flip the two-point margins in the first two frames. Kaylee Hunt led the attack with 16 kills, while Vivianne Cancio was efficient on the pin with 12 kills at a .370 clip and Kalyn Morgan added 11. Setter Abigail Leonard dished 28 assists and Alanys Rodriguez chipped in 10 more to spark a late third-set push. Libero Alejandra Aponte anchored the floor defense with a massive 37 digs, and Webber finished the match hitting .160 (48–21–169) with four aces and 4.0 total blocks.

The Warriors regrouped against host Brescia, controlling three of the four sets behind a stingy defense that held the Bearcats to .019 hitting. Morgan paced the scoring with 12 kills (.233), Cancio followed with 10, and Leonard steered the offense with 26 assists. Hunt caused problems from the line with four aces, Aponte collected 29 digs, and middle Raeann Savage owned the net with 5.0 blocks. As a team, Webber tallied eight aces, 7.0 total blocks, and 84 digs while hitting .138 (40–19–152).

For the day, Morgan and Hunt shared team-high honors with 23 kills apiece, with Cancio close behind at 22. Leonard totaled 54 assists across the two matches, Aponte piled up 66 digs, Hunt served five aces, and Savage led the front line with 8.0 total blocks.
