Lakeland, FL – The Webber International Women's Volleyball team opened the season against the Reinhardt Eagles in the Furnace at Southeastern University. The Warriors fought valiantly in Head Coach Audrye Alejandro-Rivera's debut, but ultimately fell to the Eagles 3-0.
Raeann Savage got the scoring started for the Warriors, on a kill with an assist from Alanys Rodriguez. Kaylee Hunt and Katie White got on the board next, with assists from Rodriguez and Abigail Leonard respectively. Hunt and Kaylynn Stokes combined for a block that was followed with another kill from Hunt. Vivianne Cancio scored off an assist from Leonard, and White and Savage combined for a block that represented the Warriors final points in the first set as they fell 25-13.
Hailey Mull and Stokes combined for a block to start the second set. Mull and Hunt went back-to-back on kills before a service ace from Bryanna Marks-Craig. Hunt and Cancio both scored again before an ace from Hunt herself. Kalyn Morgan had two kills for the Warriors while Anna Morton and Hunt secured the final two in the second set with Webber dropping it to Reinhardt, 25-16.
Mull started the scoring for the Warriors in the third set with two kills. Alejandra Aponte followed them up with a service ace. Morgan got another kill before joining Stokes and securing a combo block. Hunt then went on a personal four kill streak, bringing the Warriors close to the Eagles with a score of 16-11. Savage then went on to get a kill and then a solo block. Morgan got three more kills, before a setter kill from Leonard dropped the Warrior deficit to one point, 21-20. Errors from Reinhardt tied the game at 21-21 and 22-22. One more error was the final point for the Warriors as they fell 25-23, losing the set and the match.
Hunt and Morgan led the team in kills with nine and six respectively. Rodriguez and Leonard each had 10 assists for the Warriors, while Stokes led with three blocks. Aponte led the team with 14 digs, with Morgan and Hunt each adding seven themselves.
The Warriors will be back in action on Saturday, August 16th when they take on the Point Skyhawks.
