Warriors Bested by Fire

Lewiston, Idaho – The Webber International Baseball team took on the Southeastern Fire to open up the Avista NAIA World Series in Lewiston, Idaho. The Fire jumped on starter Blayne Huter early, and although the Warriors  fought valiantly, they ultimately fell to Southeastern in seven innings 15-2.

The Fire jumped to an early lead, scoring three runs in the first inning, sparked by Villalobo's two-run homer and an RBI double from Hicks. Webber struggled offensively from the outset, unable to generate consistent momentum and remaining scoreless through the first three innings. Southeastern capitalized on Webber's quiet bats, extending their lead to 6-0 by the third inning.

The fourth inning proved crucial, with Southeastern piling on five more runs, including a two-run homer by Strom, bringing their lead to a commanding 11-0. Webber finally broke through offensively in the bottom of the fourth inning, with Bryan Morales driving in a run on a single to left field. Despite this spark, Webber could not build sustained offensive pressure.

Webber managed another run in the fifth when Steven Nitch scored on a wild pitch, briefly reducing the deficit to 12-2. However, Southeastern's relentless offense quickly countered with additional runs in the fifth and sixth innings.

Hicks continued his standout performance with another home run in the seventh, pushing Southeastern's advantage to 15-2. Southeastern's pitching remained sharp, stifling any further attempts by Webber to narrow the gap. Webber's offense finished with limited hits, highlighted by singles from Morales and Camren Carrol, but ultimately lacked the firepower needed to challenge Southeastern's commanding lead.
