Women's Beach Volleyball Claims SUN Conference Tournament Title

Gulf Shores, AL – The Webber International Women's Beach Volleyball team are Champions once again, going undefeated in the SUN Conference Beach Championships on Friday and Saturday. The Warriors defeated Ave Maria, Loyola New Orleans, William Carey, and SUN Regular Season Champions Mobile en route to the tournament crown.

The Warriors were the #2 seed heading into the tournament, taking on Ave Maria in the first round. The pairs of Lily Arnold and Kendall Steinert, Delanie Johnson and Abigail Baxter, and Vivianne Cancio and Claire Jenkins won the three courts needed for the Warriors to advance in the winners bracket, with Webber taking down Ave Maria 3-0.

Against Loyola, Johnson and Baxter finished first, winning their court. Steinert and Arnold finished second, but fell in three rounds. At the 1's court, Nadia Reid and Kaylee Hunt finished third, winning in three sets, Bryanna Marks-Craig and Brianna Adams finished fourth, securing the 3-1 victory for the Warriors over the Wolfpack.

On Saturday, the Warriors faced William Carey in the semifinals. A tightly contested match that came down to the third court. Steinert and Arnold finished first, picking up the first point for Webber. Johnson and Baxter finished second, putting the Warriors up 2-0. The pairs of Marks-Craig and Adams, and Reid and Hunt both fell in their respective matches, making it 2-2, with Cancio and Jenkins the final court. Cancio and Jenkins won both sets handily, giving the Warriors a 3-2 victory and a date in the finals with Regular Season Champions Mobile.

It was a similar scene in the championship match, as Johnson and Baxter and Steinert and Arnold finished first and second respectively, both in two sets. Marks-Craig and Adams, and Cancio and Jenkins finished third and fourth, both falling in two sets to make it 2-2 with the 1s court being the deciding factor. Reid and Hunt added to the drama as their match went three sets, as they won the first and third sets. Reid and Hunt dominated the third set, winning by seven points 15-8, and giving the Warriors another SUN Conference tournament championship.

The Warriors will take this momentum into the AVCA Small College Beach Championships back in Gulf Shores next weekend, where they will look to repeat as champions.
