Babson Park, FL - The 7th ranked Webber International Baseball team hosted the 20th ranked Keiser Seahawks for a SUN Conference Doubleheader Friday afternoon. The Warriors fell in both games, 0-3, and 10-8.
Game 1: Keiser 3, Webber International 0
Keiser's pitching staff dominated the opener of the doubleheader, shutting out Webber International in a 3-0 victory. The Seahawks struck early in the first inning when P. Hutchison drove in L. Lowe with a single to right field.
A pair of insurance runs came in the fourth, courtesy of clutch hitting from A. Almendare and D. Symonds. Almendare's RBI single up the middle plated S. Grinberg, and Symonds followed up with an RBI single of his own to score G. Baird, extending Keiser's lead to 3-0.
Webber International struggled offensively, managing only four hits throughout the game. Their best scoring opportunity came in the bottom of the sixth when they put two runners in scoring position after a throwing error and a passed ball. However, Keiser's bullpen shut the door, stranding both runners and securing the shutout win.
Game 2: Keiser 10, Webber International 8
The nightcap featured a slugfest, with Keiser emerging victorious in a 10-8 thriller. Webber International struck first in the bottom of the second on an R. Recio solo home run to left center, taking an early 1-0 lead.
Keiser responded emphatically in the third, capitalizing on a Webber fielding error. S. Grinberg launched a three-run homer to right field, giving the Seahawks a 4-1 advantage. Webber fought back in the fourth when M. Cuello belted a two-run home run to center field, cutting the deficit to 4-3.
The Seahawks broke the game open in the fifth, thanks to another Grinberg homer—a two-run blast that extended their lead to 6-3. A Webber fielding miscue allowed Keiser to tack on three more runs, making it 9-3. J. Martinez homered in the bottom of the sixth, but Keiser added an unearned run in the seventh to push their lead to 10-4.
Webber mounted a furious comeback in the bottom of the seventh. B. Sanchez delivered a two-run single up the middle, followed by a two-run homer from J. Martinez, bringing the score to 10-8. However, Keiser's bullpen clamped down, escaping the inning without further damage.
The Seahawks held on through the final two frames, surviving a late Webber push in the ninth that saw the tying run reach base. A groundout to shortstop sealed the game.
