Babson Park, FL– The Webber International Women's Basketball made a furious fourth-quarter push but came up just short in a 73–68 SUN Conference setback to St. Thomas University on Wednesday evening inside the Sabbagh Athletic Center.
St. Thomas used a hot start to build a 22–15 lead after the opening 10 minutes and pushed its advantage to 32–28 at halftime. The Bobcats stretched the margin to double digits in the third quarter and led 57–45 heading into the final period, eventually going up by as many as 15 early in the fourth. Webber refused to go away, however, stringing together stops and getting to the free-throw line to claw back within two possessions in the closing minutes before time ran out on the comeback bid.
Sophya Barreiro paced the Warriors with 17 points on an efficient 7-of-11 shooting night, knocking down a pair of threes. Jaiden Ross and Camryn Patterson added 13 points apiece, with Ross going 5-of-7 at the stripe and Patterson stuffing the stat sheet with 11 rebounds, eight assists and three steals in 37 minutes of action. Isabel Negron chipped in nine points, four boards and two blocks, while Janaina Goncalves finished with five points, five rebounds, four steals and two assists.
As a team, Webber shot 24-of-66 (36.4 percent) from the field and 16-of-30 at the foul line while forcing 25 St. Thomas turnovers and turning them into 23 points. The Warriors also collected 13 steals and scored 30 points in the paint, but the Bobcats' 49–34 edge on the glass and 8 made three-pointers proved to be the difference on the night.
