Warriors Continue Skid Against Banyans

Babson Park, FL – The Webber International Women's Basketball team endured a tough outing against SUN opponent New College of Florida, falling 49-33 in a defensive battle. Despite a strong first quarter, the Warriors struggled offensively in the latter stages of the game, allowing the Banyans to rally and secure the win.

The first quarter began positively for the Warriors, as they shot 33.3% from the field and leaned on Renae Brant and Jaiden Ross, who combined for 9 of Webber's 12 points. The Warriors' defense was effective, limiting New College to 6.7% shooting, helping Webber to an early 12-7 lead.

In the second quarter, the Warriors' offense began to cool, as they managed just 13.3% shooting and went 0-for-3 from beyond the arc. New College took advantage of their opportunities, led by Halle Shelt, who scored 5 points in the quarter, closing the gap and pulling ahead to lead 16-15 at halftime.

The third quarter saw Webber struggle significantly, shooting just 7.1% from the field, with only one made field goal in the period. Meanwhile, New College found their rhythm from deep, with Shelt hitting two three-pointers and finishing the quarter with 8 points. The Banyans outscored the Warriors 17-6 in the third, extending their lead to 33-21.

In the final quarter, Webber attempted a comeback, but their shooting woes continued, with only 27.3% from the field and 16.7% from three-point range. New College maintained their composure, with Camila Zbynski contributing key points late to secure the 49-33 victory.

Key performers for Webber included Renae Brant, who led the team with 10 points and 6 rebounds, and Jaiden Ross, who added 9 points and 7 rebounds. J Curry contributed 6 points and 5 rebounds, but the Warriors shot just 20% from the field and 12.5% from three-point range, hindering their chances.

For New College, Shelt was the standout, scoring 15 points on 5-of-9 three-point shooting, while Gwen Tsoukalas added 10 points and 8 rebounds. The Banyans also dominated the boards, outrebounding Webber 49-44 and converting second-chance opportunities.
