Ave Maria, FL - The Webber International softball team traveled to take on the Ave Maria Gyrenes. After a hard fought battle, the Gyrenes took the series with wins in games two and three.
The Warriors got on the board first in game two as
Haley Saylor got hit by a pitch, scoring
Thalia Romero in the top of the 1st inning. A quick bottom of the 1st put the Warriors back on defense, but Webber was unable to convert runs. AMU brought two across in the bottom of the 2nd inning to take a one-run lead.
After two scoreless inning, the Gyrenes brought another run across to extend their lead to two in the bottom of the 4th.
Rachel Lamoureaux pinch hit in the top of the 7th inning, reaching base by a perfect bunt.
Hailey Bellamy followed with a fielder's choice, with Lamoureaux out at second base.
Gracie Lopez doubled to left center putting two in scoring position, as a sacrificial ground out for
Samantha Proctor scored Alexi Watkins. The Gyrenes managed the final out of game two, taking the series with the 3-2 win.
The Warriors came out strong in game three as they scored two in the top of the 1st inning.
Lopez got things started with a lead off walk, followed by a sac bunt from Watkins. Romero singled up the middle moving Lopez to third base. Bradny Barquin singled to center field, scoring Lopez, and moving Romero.
Johnkiria Bland and
Haley Saylor both made it aboard, scoring one more, before AMU got the final out of the 1st inning.
Abigayle Ellison kept the Gyrenes off the board as she trusted her defense with all three outs coming from the outfield.
AMU got one across in the bottom of the 2nd inning, as
Samantha Hudson caught one stealing. The Gyrenes followed that up with another run in the bottom of the 3rd inning to tie the game. Ave took the lead with a run in the bottom of the 4th inning, before the Warriros brought one across in the top of the 5th inning to keep the game tied.
AMU brought two across in the bottom of the 6th inning to take back the lead, before getting the final three outs of the game to secure the win.
The Warriors will be back in action tomorrow next week as they host the Southeastern Fire.
