Babson Park, FL – The 5th-ranked Webber International baseball team scored 8 runs on 13 hits to pick up their fourth win of the weekend. With this, the Warriors move to 36-8 on the season, and 15-5 in SUNC play.
Jonathan Bautista picked up his 8th win of the season, as he pitched six complete innings. The junior struck out four batters, and only allowed for runs off three hits. Thomas Nelson, Danny Rodriguez, and Hunter Youngblood all spent time in relief as the Warriors closed the 8-6 win.
Gabriel Cruz's hot streak stayed alive as he went 3-for-4 with a walk and an RBI. Tyren Milliner and Joseph Becker both added two hits, while Milliner added two runs.
FMU attacked first, bringing across four runs through the first three innings.
In the top of the 4th inning, Milliner singled to left field. Ryan Recio was struck by a pitch to put two on. A sac bunt for Becker moved runners in scoring position as Brodey Neveker stepped to the plate. The senior hit a ball into right center, scoring both Milliner and Recio to cut the Lions lead to two. Cruz followed with a single down the right side, advancing Neveker. Designated Hitter, Case McClelland, singled through the left side to score Neveker, making it a one-run ball game.
A quick three-up-three-down inning put the Warriors back on offense.
An error by the Lions' third baseman allowed Ian Kalman aboard. Milliner singled to right field to put two on before a balk put runners into scoring position. Recio singled to left center, scoring Kalman and tying the game. A walk loaded the bases, before another Balk gave the Warriors a one-run lead. Cruz dropped a perfect bunt, allowing Recio and Becker to score. Cruz made it all the way to third base before the Lions got the third out.
The Warriors added a run in the top of the 6th inning off a sac fly from Camren Carroll, making it 8-4. FMU brought two runs across in the bottom of the 9th inning, as Cruz grabbed out number three to secure the 8-6 win.
Webber will head across Crooked Lake to take on rivals, Warner Royals for a four-game series. WIU took two from the Royals in an early non-conference matchup and seek to keep their streak alive. The first pitch is set for Thursday, April 18th at 6 PM.
