Warriors Break Out The Brooms And Secure Series Over Lions

Babson Park, FL – The 5th-ranked Webber International baseball team saw four pitchers as they notched their 6th run-rule of the season, as they took down the Lions 12-2.  

GAME ONE: NEVEKER NOTHCES GRANDSLAM IN 14-4 WIN OVER THE LIONS 

Brayden Matthews pitched five complete innings, striking out three batters, and only allowing three runs on five hits. Hunter Youngblood and Gage Allen both came in for an inning apiece. 

Brodey Neveker and Ian Kalman led the team offensively. Kalman went 3-for-3 with 2 RBIs. Neveker went 2-for-2 with a grand slam, a double, and a walk.  

Camren Carroll led off for the Warriors, taking a five-pitch walk to get things started. A single for Ian Kalman and a hit-by-pitch for Tyren Milliner loaded the bases with no outs. A sac fly by Joseph Becker made it 1-0, before the Lions got the final two outs. 

FMU responded with a walk and single of their own, before a perfect pick off by Carroll made it two outs. The Warriors kept the Lions from scoring with a solo put out by Ryan Recio

In the top of the 2nd inning, Jonathan Vega led off with a five-pitch walk, bringing up the shortstop, Richard Rodriguez. R. Rodriguez got ahead early in the count before smoking a ball into left field for a base hit. Carroll followed with a quick 2-0 count, as Vega and R. Rodriguez double-steal to move into scoring position. A walk for the catcher plus a wild pitch brought in run number two for the Warriors with runners on the corners.  

Deven Tedders came in to pinch run for Carroll, advancing to second on a wild pitch. Ian Kalman notched a two-run RBI off a well-hit ball to right center field. The Million Dollar Man of Tyren Milliner stepped to the plate and was hit for the second time to load put two on with no outs. Recio got on base via a fielder's choice, to bring up Becker.  

Another wild pitch brought Kalman in to score and Recio made it to 3rd base. Becker earned a four-pitch walk, forcing an FMU pitching change. Neveker loaded the bases with a hit-by-pitch. The Lions were able to get out of the inning with a double play. 

Brayden Matthews headed back on the mound for the Warriors, getting ahead early with a 0-2 count, before striking out batter number one in bottom of the second inning. A ground out to Matthews was good for out number two. FMU got one aboard off a walk, before Vega grabbed the third out. 

A walk for Kalman and a hit-by-pitch for Recio got the Warriors on the bases to start the top of the 5th inning. Becker loaded the bases with a one-out walk, as Neveker stepped to the plate. Neveker extended WIU's lead to nine with a grand slam over the right field wall. Vega kept the inning alive with a single to center field. An error by the Lions allowed R. Rodriguez aboard as Vega advanced to third, before FMU got the third out. 

The Lions got two runners on in to start the bottom of the 4th inning. Milliner got the lead runner out at third for the first out of the inning. Recio picked up out number two with an unassisted step on first base. FMU brought two across to cut the Warriors' lead to seven, before R. Rodriguez grabbed the final out of the inning.  

Ian Kalman led off the top of the 6th inning with a single to right field, followed by a single to left field from Milliner. The Lions grabbed the last two outs of the inning, keeping the Warriors from adding to their lead. 

FMU scored two in the bottom of the 5th inning to cut Webber's lead to five. 

Becker led off the top of the 6th inning with a single to the shortstop. Neveker followed with a double to left field, putting two in scoring position. An error and wild pitch add two runs for the Warriors.  

WIU forced another pitching change for FMU as the one-out rally caught fire. R. Rodriguez got a head in the count early, before forcing another pitching change. R. Rodriguez took ball four for a walk to flip the lineup over. A wild pitch put one in scoring position. FMU kept the Warriors to just three runs in the top of the 6th as they grabbed the next two outs.  

Hunter Youngblood came into relief pitch for the Warriors in the bottom of the 6th inning. Back-to-back strikeouts for Youngblood coupled with a catch by Kalman kept the Lions from adding runs.  

To start the top of the 7th inning, Deven Tedder got a pinch-hit opportunity. After getting behind in the count, Tedders was struck by the pitch to take his place on base. Neveker followed a quick walk to put two on, forcing another FMU pitching change. Jonathan Vega loaded the bases with a one-out walk. Carroll followed with a 2 RBI single to put runners on the corners before the Lions grabbed out number three.  

Gage Allen came in to pitch for the Warriors in the bottom of the 7th inning. A ground out, Fielder's Choice, and a line out was just what Webber needed to seal game two of the series. 

GAME TWO: RODRIGUEZ GOES 4-FOR-4 TO SECURE THE SERIES OVER THE LIONS 

Dylan Martin took to the mound to start game three, as he picked up win number three. The senior pitched six complete innings and struck out four batters, only allowing two runs on five hits. Seth Lovell grabbed his 5th save of the season, as he pitched the final three innings.  

Richard Rodriguez went 4-for-4 to lead the team on offense. Christian Campbell and Case McClelland added two hits apiece as the Warriors coast in their third win over the Lions.  

A scoreless 1st inning was broken by an RBI single for R. Rodriguez. A fly out, ground out, and swinging strikeout kept the Lions off the board.  

Florida Memorial snuck a run in the bottom of the 4th inning to even the score. Webber responded with two runs of their own. R. Rodriguez led off the top of the 5th inning with a double to left field. Joseph Becker made it aboard due to an FMU error, scoring R. Rodriguez. A sac bunt for Kalman moved Becker into scoring position, before an error by the pitcher put him on third base. Milliner singled up the middle bringing in another run for the Warriors.  

Brodey Neveker got things rolling in the bottom of the 6th inning, as he smoked a ball into center field for a leadoff single. McClelland followed with a single of his own. A fielder's choice got out the Warriors' lead runner but kept two aboard. Josh Blackmore loaded the bases with a single to center field. R. Rodriguez singled to left field to bring across Campbell and McClelland, before the Lions got the final two outs.  

FMU added a run in the bottom of the 6th inning, but the double-play kings kept the Lions from causing too much damage.  

A Tyren Milliner walk set up Ryan Recio for an RBI double to left field. Jonathan Vega pinch hit, reaching on a fielder's choice that allowed Milliner to score.  

Lovell came in for relief in the top of the 7th inning, sitting down three straight batters to put the Warriors back on offense.  

The Warriors were able to add another hit as a looking strike out, ground out, and fly out gave the Warriors their 35th win of the season.  

Webber will be back in action tomorrow as they continue the series with Florida Memorial, starting at 12 PM.
