Babson Park, FL – The Webber International men's volleyball team was not challenged on Friday afternoon as they took on two out of state teams in the Bluefield University Rams and the Kentucky State University Thorobreds. The Warriors rolled through their conference foe Rams for the second time this season in a three-set sweep and the Thorobreds were met with the same fate later in the afternoon as the Warriors went 2-0 on the day.
The Warriors started their Friday afternoon slate of games against the Bluefield University Rams. The Rams had taken the Warriors to five sets in their first matchup in Virginia, but the Warriors would not be challenged in their home court where they are undefeated on the season. The Warriors jumped out to a quick 3-0 start with an early
Carson Barnes kill who finished with a team high 15 kills in the match. The game would go back and forth until the Warriors pulled 16-12 with a
Thoralf Schmelzer kill to force a Rams timeout. The Warriors would take care of business to close out the first set 25-18. The Warriors would rack up another 12 kills as a team in set two including four kills from Schmelzer who finished with 11 kills for the match.
Trent Massey would lead the Warriors with eight digs, followed by Barnes with seven.
Ayden Keeter once again was excellent for the Warriors setting up his teammates for kills, tallying 30 assists through the three set sweep. The Rams would put more of a fight in set two, but the Warriors battled through and won set two 25-21. The Warriors smelling the air of sweet victory right at their fingertips going into set three with the chance to sweep the Rams, and they would take care of business with ease. They rolled to a set three victory 25-14 with two late service aces from Keeter to wrap up the match defeating the Rams 3-0.
The Warriors second game of the afternoon went just about exactly as the first game facing off with the first-year program of Kentucky State University Thorobreds. The Warriors in their second match of the day had some great performances from some different members of their team to lead them to victory. Kai Deauguste led the Warriors with eight kills, followed by
Joshua Corr and
Cesar Remedios with five kills each, and
Kornel Szabo with four. Massey led the way for the Warriors with 11 digs and 16 assists taking over the setting role for the Warriors. Joan Galmes would rack up four service aces for the Warriors with Deauguste collecting two aces as well as the Warriors cruised to another three set sweep, 25-15, 25-21, and 25-17 over the Thorobreds.
The Warriors complete their four-game home weekend stand tomorrow afternoon against Central State University at 4:00 PM in Babson Park, FL.
