Game Recap: Men's Volleyball |

Warriors Maroon Marauders 3-0

Babson Park, FL – The Webber International Warriors men's volleyball team played their fourth game of the weekend on Saturday afternoon against the visiting division one program Central State University Marauders. The Warriors coming off three straight sweeps in their home stand decided to make the Marauders the fourth and took down the visiting Marauders 3-0 to win their 13th game of the year.

The Warriors out hit the visiting Marauders in the first and second set with a combined 26 kills to the visitors 16. Thoralf Schmelzer led the way for the Warriors, tallying 13 kills throughout the match on 24 total attacks. Two of Schmelzer's kills came early in the first set as the Warriors jumped out to a quick 4-0 lead. Gunter Perea also had a great day on the offensive side of the ball for the Warriors racking up seven kills on eight attempts as he also secured two early kills to push the lead out for the Warriors in the first set. A 6-0 and 4-0 for the Warriors helped propel them to coast through set one without any signs of trouble for a 25-11 victory to open up the match.

Set two was more tightly contested through the beginning portion of the set, but it was at the 7-7 score line when the Warriors started to pull away. Schmelzer and Joan Galmes both tallied a service ace with kills from Carson Barnes and Perea to push their lead up to five. Two more kills from Schmelzer and one from Barnes, all set up by the Warriors all-star setter, Ayden Keeter who assisted 33 more kills for the Warriors on the day would push them up to a 10-point lead 23-13. Trent Massey's first kill of the day would wrap up set two which proved to be another blowout victory for the Warriors 25-16.

Set three would be the challenge of the weekend for the Warriors as the Marauders came out hot to start out the third set. The Marauders would lead through much of the set, but good play from Daniel Beacham who had four kills in the set would help keep the Warriors within striking distance. Two more kills from Massey started the Warriors battle back from a five point deficit. Cesar Remedios added a kill, followed by a Kai Desauguste service ace to bring the score within two and force a momentum stopper timeout from the Marauders. The score would go back and forth with Barnes striking down from above with his sixth kill of the afternoon to knot up the score at 22-22. The Warriors would call a timeout down 24-22 and battle back to tie it back up at 25-25 with Beacham's fourth kill of the set. Another Schmelzer kill would give the Warriors the final word and point on the afternoon with the Marauders defeating them 28-26 to earn their fourth victory on the weekend.

The Warriors will get back on the court next Friday, April 5th at 5:00 PM facing off against Edward Waters in Babson Park, FL.
