Warriors Sweep Gray Wolves to Open Spring Break Week

Babson Park, FL – The Webber International softball team notched back-to-back wins over Lourdes University on Saturday afternoon. Webber took game one easily 4-1. Game two proved to be more of a battle as Haley Saylor walked off the win with an RBI single. With this, Webber improves to 6-9 on the season as they head into another week packed with action.

GAME ONE: JENNA CHAUDOIN GARNERS THIRD WIN OF THE SEASON AGAINST LOURDES

Jenna Chaudoin got the start in game one as she pitched seven complete innings, struck out two batters, and only allowed one run on three hits. Thalia Romero commanded the defense with seven putouts. Alycia Celia and Gracie Lopez notched three runs apiece to ensure the win.

Rachel Lamoureaux and Chloe Rayner led the team offensively as they both went 2-for-2. Lamoureaux earned two walks and batted in three runs while Rayner brought in one run and had one walk. Brandy Barquin and Paige Weinmann both added hits to the board as the Warriors completed the 4-1 win.

Chaudoin sat down her first six batters as the game ran scoreless for two and a half innings, Alexi Watkins took a hit-by-pitch to get things rolling for the Warriors. Back-to-back passed balls put Watkins in scoring position. A fielder's choice allowed Gracie Lopez on base and Watkins to score, making it 1-0 for the Warriors. Lopez stole second during Lamoureaux's at bat to put a runner in scoring position. A standup single from Lamoureaux brought Lopez around for another run.

Two straight walks in the bottom of the fifth set Chloe Rayner up for an RBI single to centerfield. Dominica Kohout came in to pinch run for Rayner and ended up stealing second base before the Gray Wolves got out number three.

Lourdes got one run across in the top of the 6th inning. The Warriors responded with a one-run two-out rally to extend the lead to three. Three straight outs for Chaudoin and the Warriors closed game one with a 4-1 win in the books.

GAME TWO: HALEY SAYLOR SAVES THE SWEEP WITH A WALKOFF SINGLE

Taylor Thomas started in the circle for the Warriors in game two. The Sophomore pitched seven complete innings, struck out six batters, and only allowed two runs on three hits.

Samantha Hudson and Johnkiria Bland added two hits to the board while Haley Saylor and Rachel Lamoureaux notched the only RBIs of the game.

After four straight scoreless innings, Alexi Watkins got things rolling with a leadoff walk in the bottom of the fifth. Another stolen base for the Junior put her in scoring position before a sac bunt from Kimmie Cheung moved her 60 feet. A Lamoureaux single brought in Watkins and gave the Warriors a 1-0 lead.

The Gray Wolves brought two across in the top of the sixth to make it a one-run ball game. Bland opened with a leadoff double to left center field before Kohout came in to pinch run. A tricky hit from Nicole Gutierrez put two on for the Warriors as Aubrey Brown came in to run. Watkins took a walk to load the bases with two outs, but Webber was unable to convert.

Thomas sat down the final three batters for Lourdes to give the Warriors one more chance on offense. After two quick outs, Samantha Hudson singled to the shortstop to change the momentum before Sommer Zier-Norris pinch ran. Bland singled to put two on as Miranda Muriel came in to run. Genesis Aviles took a walk to load the bases as Haley Saylor stepped up and took the four-pitch single to bring in both Zier-Norris and Muriel to win the game 3-2.

The Warriors will be back in action on Monday, March 4th as they head to Melbourne, FL to compete in the Space Coast tournament.
