Strong Defense Leads Warriors Past Seahawks 4-2

West Palm Beach, FL – The Webber International softball team opened Sun Conference play with a 4-2 win over the Keiser Seahawks. The Warriors capitalized on their nine hits as they move to 11-13 on the season, and 1-0 in SUNC play.

Jenna Chaudoin notched her sixth win of the season as she pitched seven complete innings and only allowed two runs on eight hits.

Brandy Barquin led the Warriors' offense as she went 2-for-three with an RBI. Thalia Romero and Rachel Lamoureaux both went 2-for-4 as Lamoureaux garnered another RBI. Gracie Lopez and Alexi Watkins both notched RBIs as the Warriors slide past the Seahawks 4-2.

The Seahawks got on the board first with two unearned runs in the bottom of the first inning. The Warriors immediately responded as Johnkiria Bland took a leadoff walk. A sac bunt for Barquin moved Bland into scoring position before a hit-by-pitch and another walk loaded the bases. Watkins brought in a run for the Warriors as she was also hit by a pitch.

Webber's defense kept Keiser from scoring in the bottom of the second inning. Lamoureaux led off the bottom of the third inning with a single to left center. Romero followed suit with a single to right field. A throwing error loaded the bases for the big bat of Brandy Barquin. The senior singled up the middle to bring in Lamoureaux and tie the game.

A fly out and two foul outs kept the Seahawks from getting on base in the third. A perfect bunt for Alycia Celia led off the top of the fourth inning. Watkins singled to the KU shortstop and put runners on the corners with no outs. Lopez doubled down the right field line to bring in another run and put two in scoring position. Lamoureaux singled to the first baseman to make it 4-2.

The Warriors were able to hold strong through three and a half innings as they take game one from the Seahawks.

Webber will be back to work tomorrow as they will continue this series with a doubleheader in West Palm Beach, FL starting at Noon (ET).
