Babson Park, FL – The 12th-ranked Webber Warriors baseball team grabbed two more wins over the 15th-ranked Ave Maria Gyrenes. Webber took game one of the day 9-6 and game two 7-6. With this, the Warriors move to 17-3 on the year, and a perfect 4-0 in Sun Conference play.
GAME ONE: BIG 2ND INNING SOARS WARRIORS PAST GYRENES
Dylan Martin got the start in game one and pitched 4.2 innings, struck out two batters, and allowed three runs on seven hits. Thomas Nelson came in for relief in the fourth inning and notched his first win of the season. Nelson pitched three complete innings, struck out two batters, and only allowed two runs on two hits. Danny Rodriguez closed the show and added another save to his resume as he pitched 1.1 innings and only allowed one run to come across.
Offensively, Camren Carroll led game one as he went 2-5 and batted in two runs. Ian Kalman and Ryan Recio both went 1-2 with two and one runs on the day. Kalman grabbed three walks, while Recio notched one as well. Brodey Neveker also had a two-run single. Gabriel Cruz, Richard Rodriguez, Jarrett May, and Tyren Milliner each added a hit and a run to the board for Webber.
AMU got on the board first with a quick run in the top of the 1st inning. The Warriors were unable to respond until the bottom of the 2nd inning as Milliner got things rolling with a leadoff single. Recio doubled to left center to put two runners in scoring position. Joseph Becker brought Milliner home with a sacrificial ground out. May and Cruz scored two more with back-to-back doubles. Carrol brought in another run before the Gyrenes got the final out of the inning.
AMU brought in two more runs to make it 4-3 in the top of the 3rd. Becker brought in another run in the bottom of the 3rd to extend the lead to five. After an inning and a half of scoreless play, Ian Kalman scored on a wild pitch to put Webber up 6-3. AMU grabbed a run in the top of the 6th and top of the 8th to cut the deficit to one. The Warriors brought in three more runs in the bottom of the 8th inning to secure the 9-6 win.
GAME TWO: MORALES WITH THE WALK OFF TO SECURE THE WIN OVER #15 AVE MARIA
Gabriel Dorsey grabbed his first win of the season as he pitched one inning and only allowed one run on three hits. Brighton Taylor pitched one perfect inning to grab his first save of the season.
Brodey Neveker and Ryan Recio got three hits apiece and scored three total runs. Recio brought in two runs, while a slooth of Warriors helped to secure the 7-6 win.
AMU got on the board first with a homerun in the top of the 1st, which was met with a Recio homer to make it 1-1. A sac bunt from Christian Campbell brought in Jonathan Vega and gave the Warriors the 2-1 lead. An AMU error allowed Deven Tedders on base and R. Rodriguez to score.
Bautista kept the Gyrenes off the board with two strikeouts. Neveker singled to right field and set up Recio for an RBI double. After two scoreless innings, Christian Campbell got on base with a hit-by-pitch. Kalman singled to centerfield and brought in another run.
The Warriors scored one in the bottom of the seventh to make it 6-2. AMU broufht four runs around in the top of the eighth to tie the game. Bryan Morales singled down the left side to bring in the game winning run as Brighton Taylor closed the game out with three straight outs.
Webber will be back on the diamond on Tuesday, March 5th as they are set to host Lawrence Tech. First pitch is set for 11 AM.
