Ave Maria, FL - The Webber International University women's beach volleyball team traveled to take on the Ave Maria Gyrenes to start SUNC play.. After a tough battle, the Warriors fell to the Gyrenes, 3-2.
The Warriors sent out pairs of Janna Morrissey and Lily Arnold, Kendall Steinert and Nadia Reid, Abby Baxter and Kiersten Tisdale, Delanie Johnson and Leyni Young, and Vivian Cancio and Ryann Sloan against the Gyrenes.
The Warriors got on the board first as Arnold and Morrissey notched a straight set win in the one seed (21-17, 21-14).
The Gyrenes responded with a win at fours, both 21-19.
Reid and Steinert took the lead back for the Warriors as they got the win in the two seed. The pair took set one 21-17 before the Gyrenes battled back in set two to force a tie breaker. Both pairs traded points, before Reid and Steinert took the set 15-11.
Cancio and Sloan battled in the fifth seed to take set one 21-15. The Gyrenes flipped the score in the second to force a decisive third, which they won 15-7.
Tisdale and Baxter fought to take set one 21-19 before the Gyrenes took set two 21-15. In the tie breaker, both pairs traded points before the Gyrenes got the 15-7 win and securing the 3-2 victory for AMU.
The Warriors will be back to action on Wednesday, February 28th as they host Florida Southern College for their home opener. First serve is set for 1 PM.
