Warriors Fall to St. Leo in Opening Weekend

ST. Leo, FL - The Webber International University women's beach volleyball team opened their 2024 season traveling to take on the Saint Leo Lions. After a tough battle, the Warriors fell to the Lions 5-0.  

Webber's lineup looked different this year as Nadia Reid and junior transfer Janna Morrissey saw themself at the 1 seed. Lily Arnold and Kendall Steinert saw themselves in the two-hole for the Warriors. Returning pair Kiersten Tisdale and Abby Baxter earned the third seed. Delanie Johnson and freshman Leyni Young were the fourth seed for the Warriors, while Andrea Padilla and Anna Morton finished the lineup for Webber. 

Steinert and Arnold finished first as they fell to the Lion's 0-2. After keeping it close for the first 10 points, and even were tied at seven in the first set. The Lions pulled away quickly and took the set 21-11. In the second stanza, The Warriors came out scoring five quick points, before dropping to ST. Leo took the set 21-13. 

The fourth seed for the Warriors, Johnson and Young, finished second as they also dropped to the Lions in straight sets (21-12, 21-11). Reid and Morrissey held on strong before St. Leo defeated them 2-0. Morton and Padilla finished slightly before Baxter and Tisdale, both of which fell 2-0. 

The Warriors will be back to action this weekend as they are set to take on NCAA DII foe Palm Beach Atlantic on Saturday, February 17th at 10 AM.
