4 Warriors Score in Double Digits during Home Opener Win

Babson Park,  FL – The Webber International Men's Basketball team hosted the Beacon College Blazers for their 2024-25 Home opener on Tuesday evening. Four starters hit double figures with the Warriors jumping out to an early lead and leading wire-to-wire, taking down the Blazers 99-84.

The Warriors got out to a high-flying start as Jerry Carraway Jr. found Jordan Golden for an alley-oop for the games first points. Orlando Thomas then scored a layup and one after being fouled to extend the Warriors lead. Golden scored his first points of the game before the Blazers finally got on the board with a three. Khalyl Simmons and Thomas were responsible for the next 10 points, with two threes from Simmons and two layups from Thomas. Jaquris Slaughter, Ethan Taylor, and Jaylin Bain each had a layup before Taylor got two more from the charity stripe. Simmons scored the next five on a three and a two, making it 30-19 Webber. Zachary O'Callaghan got himself on the board with a layup, before Carraway Jr. went 1-2 from the free throw line. Simmons and Jovon Rosse scored next, before Amir Benelbasry got a layup to end the Warriors scoring in the first half with the score 43-31.

Golden got the first three points on a layup and a free throw, with Simmons hitting another three soon after. Simmons and Golden score again before Thomas got back in on the action with another layup. O'Callaghan had a fastbreak layup with Golden hitting a three for the Warriors next five points. Thomas and Carraway Jr. went back-to-back-to-back on three point makes, to bring the score to 70-53. Golden was sent to the line, making both, before Taylor subbed back in and sank a three. A layup by Carraway Jr. and a fastbreak dunk from O'Callaghan kept the Warriors ahead by 10, 79-69. Thomas and Golden again kept the lead at 10, with two free throws and a layup from Thomas and another three from Golden. O'Callaghan got hit with the three ball fever, sinking one from downtown, extending the lead to 13, 89-76. Carraway Jr. made four straight free throws, with Bain also going 1-2 from the charity stripe. Golden had one more layup before Nicholas Reyes came in and sank a three, igniting the crowd, as the Warriors took down the Blazers 99-84.

Simmons led the team with 20 points, going 6-11 from the 3 point line. Golden had a double-double, living up to his moniker, with 19 points and 11 rebounds, while also adding a block and a steal. Thomas also had 19 points with four rebounds and four assists, while going 2-2 from three and 3-3 from the free throw line. Carraway Jr. was the final Warrior in double digits with 10 points to go along with six assists and two rebounds. Taylor was the leading scorer off the bench with seven, while Gabriel Sorensen made his presence known on the board with nine rebounds.

The Warriors will be back in action on Saturday, November 16th when they host the Ave Maria Gyrenes to open up SUN Conference play at 4 P.M.
