Babson Park, FL – The Webber International Women's Soccer team looked to bounce back on Saturday morning after a disappointing result on Thursday. They welcomed in another SUN Conference opponent in the SCAD-Savannah Bees, which was their second matchup of the 2024 season. The Warriors struggled in their last match against the Bees, in Savannah, but held strong throughout Saturday's match and stayed in the game, but ultimately fell 2-0 to #14 ranked Bees.
The Warriors began the match as well as they could have hoped for, getting an early shot on target from their striker Samantha Chitu in the 10th minute. From there the Bees would start to take the offensive, racking up four straight shots over 17 minutes of play, three going wide, and one being saved by the Warriors keeper, Juliana Grider. After a series of Warrior fouls, the Bees would earn a free kick from just outside the box and Ines Sommer would curl the shot into the upper left corner for the first goal of the game. Grider would make one more save in the half just minutes later in the 33rd minute to keep the score close, and the Warriors would get off a series of shots, from Holly Tyrell and Melissa Del Valle, all blocked by the Bees defense. Chitu would get the last chance of the half in the 42nd minute with another shot on target, but the Bees keeper would be there to record the save and send the match into halftime with the Bees leading 1-0.
The second half was another dominant performance for the Bees who controlled the majority of possession and contained the Warriors offense to just one shot at goal in the second half. The Bees would go on to add another goal in the 61st minute from a terrific individual effort and run from Ida Akkesson who found the back of the net to give the Bees the 2-0 advantage. Despite the goals allowed, Grider would have another good half in net with five more saves with her defensive back line holding the highly explosive Bees offensive attack in check for the majority of the match. The final whistle blew and wrapped up the Saturday morning match with the Bees defeating the Warriors 2-0 in Babson Park.
The Warriors will stay on their home field for their next match against Florida National University on Wednesday, October 23rd at 12:00 PM.
