Warriors Take Down Royals in Five Set Thriller

Lake Wales, FL – The Webber International Women's Volleyball team traveled across Lake Caloosa to take on Warner University in another SUN Conference Crooked Lake Clash. Anytime the Warriors and Royals play it is sure to turn into an instant classic and this edition of the rivalry was no different, as Webber took down Warner in five sets, 3-2.

The Warriors jumped ahead in the first set, as Luci Marinella started the game with a service ace. Savanna Wilhite and Abby Leonard each had a kill before Rylee Bolser and Delanie Johnson combined for a block. With the game tied at 7-7, Nadia Reid had two kills for Webber to give them a 9-8 lead. Webber and Warner traded four-point swings, with an ace from Reid giving the Warriors the lead again at 13-12. With the Warriors down by two, a service ace from Johnson tied it back up at 16-16. Both teams went back and forth before Webber was once again down, 20-19. The Warriors then scored six of the next eight points to take the first set 25-22.

Johnson and Wilhite scored the first two points for the Warriors in set two. Cintia Lorena picked up a solo block to tie the game at 5-5. Attacking errors by the Royals helped keep the Warriors ahead, as Bolser and Kaylee Hunt also picked up a block. After Warner retook the lead, kills from Reid put the game at 19-18 in favor of the Warriors. Webber and Warner went back and forth, as the Warriors scored six of the next 11 points to take set two 25-23.

The third start started out well for the Warriors, scoring seven of the first 10 points, thanks in part to kills from Johnson and Bolser, as well as blocks from Wilhite, Bolser, and Hunt. More errors from the Royals kept the Warriors ahead and another block from Wilhite gave Webber a 14-10 lead. Alanys Rodriguez got in with a service ace before kills from Bolser and Reid put the Warriors at 20-17. Webber would only score four more points in the set as Warner stormed back to take set three 26-24.

The fourth set started with the Royals ahead of the Warriors. A kill from Daphne Wibranowski started a four-point run for the Warriors that put them ahead 5-4. A kill from Lorena and a block from Bolser and Reid helped kick start the Warrior offense, getting ahead of the Royals 13-9. Warner was able to pull ahead after scoring five straight to take a 14-13 lead. Back-to-back kills from Reid helped the Warriors regain their lead, but the Royals scored nine of the next 13 points to take the fourth set 25-21, setting up the decisive set five.

Webber was in control for the majority of the fifth set, as Reid and Johnson helped score four of the first five points. Kills from Johnson, Bolser, and Reid helped put the Warriors ahead 10-4. Reid and Wilhite combined for a block before Reid capitalized the Warriors win with a service ace to take the fifth set, 15-9.

Reid led the team with 20 kills, Johnson had 11 and Hunt had seven. Reid also led the team with two service aces. Marinella had 29 assists for the Warriors, with Rodriguez adding 11. Defensively, Bolser led the team with five blocks, while Wilhite had four. Abigail Baxter led the team with 26 digs, Hunt contributed 19, and Marinella had 13.

The Warriors will be back in action on Saturday, October 19th when they travel to West Palm Beach, Florida to take on the Keiser Seahawks.
