Warriors draw against the Gyrenes

Box Score Ave Maria, FL. - The Webber International Women's soccer team traveled south on Wednesday evening to take on the Ave Maria Gyrenes in Ave Maria, FL. The Warriors were tested all night long by the Gyrenes, and after 90 minutes of play, the score remained just how it started, 0-0, to give the Warriors their first tie of the year.
 
The Warriors battled hard in the first half, as the Gyrenes took the offensive and had 11 shots at goal in the first half alone. Cameron Laine recorded another great first half of play for the Warriors, recording five saves and keeping the game level through the first half. Maddie Manzke would record two of her own shots for the Warriors in the first half, but both shots were blocked by Gyrene defenders in the 24th and 42nd minutes of action. Deb Guillen would record the only other shot in the first half for the Warriors, and she would challenge the Gyrene's goalkeeper, but Emma Schweitzer was there to make her only save of the first half. The score would remained tied at the end of the first half as both sides would head to the locker room to discuss their second half strategy.
 
The second half of play was started with two shots from the Gyrene's striker, Cate Cox, but neither reached Laine in net, as one went wide, and the other was blocked by the Warriors defense. The Warriors would get the next two chances at goal with a shot from Guillen that went wide in the 57th minute and Faith Cullen-Cooper took her shot wide just a minute later. The Warriors and Gyrene's battled through the midfield throughout most of the second half and after another shot in the 62nd minute by Guillen that was saved by the Gyrene keeper, the Warriors would not get another chance at net until the 82nd minute when Leah Mcdaid had her opportunity at goal, but once again Schweitzer was there to make the save for the Gyrenes. The last 10 minutes of play were action packed with the Warriors and Gyrenes both taking two shots at goal but neither were able to find the back of the net. The score would remain a draw as the Warriors go down to Ave Maria and earn their first tie of the season in conference play.
 
The Warriors will be back in action this coming Saturday at 11 AM, as they will travel down to play #6 Keiser University in West Palm Beach, FL.
