Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Warriors lose Sun Conference home opener to #12 SCAD

Babson Park, FL.- The Webber International Women's soccer team took on the #12 team in the country on Saturday afternoon when they played against the SCAD-Savannah Bee's. The Warriors played strong and tough for the entirety of the match, but after 3 late goals from SCAD, the Warriors fell 3-0 to drop their Sun Conference home opener.

The Warriors had a back and forth first half against the Bee's on Saturday afternoon. The Bee's coming off a win against Warner University on Thursday evening, used that momentum to take total control in the first 20 minutes of the first half. The Warriors battled and held off their persistent offensive attack and kept the game scoreless with five saves coming from Cameron Laine, the Warrior keeper. The second half of the first half was the complete opposite for the Warriors as they were the team to control possession and keep the ball on the Bee's side of the field for the majority of the time. The Warriors had their first scoring chance come on a shot from Olof Sigurdardottir in the 22nd minute which challenged the Bee's goalkeeper, Katelynn Balsiger, but she was able to make the save. Balsiger would record her only other save of the first half on a shot from Leah Mcdaid in the 30th minute. The game would remain scoreless for the entirety of the first half and after 45 minutes, both teams went into halftime with the hope of coming out victorious in the second half.

The beginning stages of the second half were eerily like that of the start of the first half, with the Bee's coming out strong and controlling the majority of possession. The first five shots of the second half came from the Bee's but only one was on net and required Laine to make her sixth save of the game. In the 58th minute SCAD made a change at goalkeeper after an injury to their starter, Balsiger, who was replaced by Zoe Goodale. Goodale was immediately challenged by the Warriors strikers with shots from Hannah Esson and Leah Mcdaid both coming within a minute of one another and both handled and saved by the Bee's new keeper. The Bee's would continue to push on offense and after a shot by Abigail Sidadll hit the post in the 64th minute, the Bee's finally broke the scoreless tie with a goal in the 67th minute by Siddall, assisted by Berglind Baldursdottir. Although the Warriors continued to battle and play strong throughout the match, they were unable to make the comeback, and the Bee's would tally two more goals for good measure in the 83rd and 87th minute to win the game 3-0 over the Warriors.

The Warriors will play their next Sun Conference game this upcoming Wednesday, September 20th as they will travel down to take on the Ave Maria Gyrene's in Ave Maria, FL.
