Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (May 8, 2023) - After a 3-0 start to The Sun Conference tournament, the Webber International University baseball team once again matched up against No. 1 Southeastern University for a shot at the conference title. The Warriors had two chances to bring home the hardware but unfortunately, the Fire were red-hot offensively which fueled them to victory in back-to-back games.

On the mound for the Warriors (40-15 overall) in game one was senior Xavier Rodriguez who tossed 5.0 innings and allowed four runs on eight hits. Pitching in relief was Casey Lawson for an inning before Gabriel Dorsey closed out the final two frames.

Webber drew first blood in the third inning on an RBI-single to left field by Luis Acevedo which brought home Drake Dobyanski, earning the Warriors a 1-0 lead. The Fire (52-4) tallied a run in each of the third and fourth innings to take a one run lead. The lead was doubled in the fifth inning on a two-run home run and the game was broken open in the sixth as Southeastern posted eight more runs to extend the lead to 12-1. The Warriors added two more runs in the ninth inning on RBI's from Brody Neveker and Ian Kalman, but the deficit was too great.

Five Warriors ended with a multi-hit game including Dobyanski and Acevedo who were both 2-for-3. Richard Rodriguez ended 2-for-2 with a run scored while Neveker and Angel Diaz each had two hits as well.

Game two saw a multitude of pitchers on the bump as Southeastern picked up right where it left off offensively. Blayne Huter earned the start with Jacob Burr, Thomas Nelson, Seth Lovell, and Thomas Lopez Jr. all appearing as well.

The Fire took no time establishing a comfortable lead, scoring one run in the first inning and five more in the third. Southeastern continued to build upon its lead, adding four in the fourth and three in the fifth to make it 14-0. The Warriors were able to score four runs over the last three innings via an RBI-double by R. Rodriguez, an RBI-triple from Bryan Morales, and a pair of RBI's by Neveker. Southeastern kept pace, however, adding five more runs and earning the Sun Conference title for the second year in a row with a 19-4 victory.

Both Morales and Acevedo finished the game 3-for-5 while A. Diaz and Tommy Diaz went 2-for-5. In total for the game, Webber recorded 13 hits but were only able to convert them into four runs.

The Warriors will now await the announcement of the NAIA National Championship Opening Round to see which of the 10 host sites they will be attending. The opening round will begin on Monday, May 15th and continue through Thursday, May 18th.
