WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (May 6, 2023) - The Webber International University baseball team battled the Fire of No. 1 Southeastern University at the Ballpark of the Palm Beaches on Saturday morning. The Warriors shutout the Fire for the first time all season, handing them just their fourth loss all year, 1-0.
Mark Link earned the nod for the Warriors (40-13 overall) as he tossed 8.0 innings, giving up just one hit and punching out a season-high nine batters. For the second straight game,
Dawson Young pitched the final inning to earn the save.
With just seven hits total between both teams, the game stayed scoreless through the first five innings. Webber took the lead in the bottom of the sixth inning on an RBI-single to right-center field by
Angel Diaz. That would be the lone run scored in the game as the Warriors held the Fire (49-4) scoreless for the last three innings.
Tommy Diaz ended the game 2-for-3 and drew a walk while A. Diaz and
Bryan Morales both finished 1-for-3. Both
Tavion Williams and
Richard Rodriguez recorded stolen bases as well.
The Warriors will await the winner between Keiser and Southeastern in a matchup on Sunday, May 7th.
