PANAMA CITY BEACH, Fla. (April 21, 2023) - Competing in the second annual NAIA National Invitational, the Webber International University women's beach volleyball team reached the semifinals for the second year in a row. The Warriors suffered a tight 3-2 defeat to No. 2 Corban University.
Six teams took part in the NAIA National Invitational as the tournament began with two pools of three teams. Webber was in Pool B with the same two teams as a year ago, No. 3 Vanguard University and No. 2 Corban University.
The Warriors (21-7) defeated Corban 3-2 in the opening match of the tournament before falling just short to Vanguard in match number two. All three teams in the pool went 1-1 and a tie breaker was necessary to establish matchups for the first round. Vanguard made light work of the Warriors this time around, handing them a 3-0 loss. Webber then matched up against No. 5 Park University in which the Warriors were victorious by a score of 3-1.
The win earned them advancement to the semifinal round for the second year in a row. The Warriors matched up against Corbin for the second time in the tournament, but this time around, Corbin earned its revenge from the first match with a narrow 3-2 victory to eliminate Webber.
The Warriors conclude the 2023 season with an overall record of 21-7, setting a program best for total wins in a season. Webber earned back-to-back titles in both The Sun Conference Championship as well as the AVCA Small College Beach Championship. Other accolades included Cindy Garcia Penaloza and
Montana-Rae Pelak earning Sun Conference Pair of the Year as well as first-year Head Coach Baylee Young being named Sun Conference Coach of the Year.
