Softball Suffers Offensive Struggles in Sweep to No. 24 Mariners

BRUNSWICK, Ga. (March 30, 2023) – The Webber International University softball team continued its series against No. 24 College of Coastal Georgia with a doubleheader on Wednesday afternoon. The Warriors were unable to get going offensively as they suffered 5-0 and 4-0 defeats.
 
Game two of the series saw the Warriors (10-20 overall, 4-8 SUN) get no-hit after an outstanding pitching performance by the Mariners (23-5, 8-1).
 
The starting pitcher for Webber was freshman Chloe Rayner who tossed 4.0 innings, allowing two runs on six hits before being relieved by Jenna Chaudoin for the final two innings.
 
Coastal Georgia scored its first run in the fourth inning before adding three more in the fifth and a final run in the sixth. The Warriors mustered just two base runners for the duration of the game.
 
Taylor Thomas got the nod in the third and final game of the series as she delivered 4.1 innings in which she gave up four runs on six hits and struck out five. Victoria Nearing entered the game to close out the final 1.2 innings, allowing just one hit and earning two punch-outs.
 
The Warriors tallied four hits, all singles, but were unable to bring across any runs in the game. Chaudoin finished 1-for-1 in a pinch-hitting situation as Samantha Proctor ended 1-for-2. Both Genesis Aviles and Maddie Houtz finished 1-for-3 for the game.
 
Next up, the Warriors return home to battle the Seahawks of Keiser University. The series will begin on Friday, March 31st at 4 p.m. and conclude on Saturday, April 1st at 12 and 2 p.m. on Nancy Nichols Field.
