BRUNSWICK, Ga. (March 28, 2023) – The Webber International University softball team returned to Georgia to open a Sun Conference series against the College of Coastal Georgia on Tuesday morning. The Warriors were held to just two hits as the Mariners took game one, 3-0.
 
The Warriors (10-18 overall, 4-6 SUN) gave Taylor Thomas her 11th start of the year in the circle. The freshmen allowed three runs on five hits and tallied five strikeouts in the process.
 
It was a pitcher's duel to begin the game as Thomas went head-to-head with one of the top pitcher's in The Sun Conference. Both teams were held scoreless through three innings before the Mariners picked up their first run on a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the fourth. Coastal Georgia added two insurance runs in the sixth on a two-run home run to left field.
 
Webber had just two hits and four base runners in total for the game. Maddie Houtz went 1-for-2 with a walk followed by Juliana Ortiz who was 1-for-2 as well.
 
The Warriors will look to respond as the series continues with a doubleheader tomorrow, March 29th at 2 and 4 p.m.
