Softball Wins Back-to-Back Conference Series

THOMASVILLE, Ga. (March 25, 2023) – The Webber International University softball team traveled north to take on Thomas University in another Sun Conference clash. The Warriors won both games of a doubleheader on Friday before falling in game three on Saturday.

Freshman Taylor Thomas earned the nod in game one for the Warriors (10-17 overall, 4-5 SUN) as she earned her fifth victory of the season after recording a complete game in which she allowed just one run on three hits and tallied eight strikeouts.

Johnkira Bland opened the scoring for the Warriors in the second inning with a solo home run. Later in the fifth inning, Webber doubled its lead after an RBI-single by Maddie Houtz scored Gensis Aviles, making it 2-0. Thomas (12-14, 3-6) scored one in the bottom of the seventh and threatened to tie the game but the Warriors were able to work themselves out of the inning for the game one victory.

In the circle for game two was a combination of Thomas and Jenna Chaudoin who split the game almost evenly. Thomas pitched 3.1 innings, allowing no runs on two hits while Chaudoin tossed 3.2, giving up one run on three hits.

Samantha Proctor drove home Taylor Bias in the second inning before Hayley Saylor scored on an error by the catcher later in the inning. Webber's lead was cut in half after an RBI-single by the Night Hawks in the fifth inning. The Warriors added two more insurance runs in the sixth inning thanks to a single from Nicole Gutierrez which scored both Saylor and Gracie Lopez.

Chaudoin earned the start in game three on Saturday, allowing four runs, only three of which were earned on five hits and added five strikeouts. Anastasia Suhetskis entered the game in relief in the final inning and gave up just one run on two hits.

Thomas earned an early lead after posting four runs in the bottom of the first. The Night Hawks added one more in the second to make it 5-0. The Warriors left six runners on base in total for the game but unfortunately were unable to bring any runs across.

The Warriors will now have to return to Georgia on Tuesday, March 28th for a series against the No. 24 College of Coastal Georgia. The two teams will match up in a single game on Tuesday at 3 p.m. followed by a doubleheader on Wednesday at 1 and 3 p.m.
