BABSON PARK, Fla. (February 12, 2023) - The Webber International University baseball team concluded its top-10 clash with No. 6 Faulkner University on Saturday afternoon on Brad Niethammer Field. The Warriors completed the sweep after a tight 4-2 victory in game two followed by a dominant 9-0 thrashing in game three.
The Warriors (10-0 overall) are off to one of, if not the best, start in program history as they have now won their first 10 games to start the 2023 season. Their previous best came in 2017, when they started the season 7-0 before suffering their first defeat. It is the second season in a row Webber has swept the nationally-ranked Eagles (4-4).
Game two had originally began on Friday with 
Mark Link on the mound but was postponed to Saturday due to rain. 
Ivan Martinez-Suarez took over for Link, earning his first win of the season after throwing 3.1 scoreless innings and allowing no runs and just two hits. 
Dawson Young entered the game to close out the final two innings and earn his third save of the season thus far.
Faulkner opened the scoring in the first inning on an RBI-double before the game was postponed in the top of the second. In the third inning, the Warriors took the lead after a single to center field by 
Tommy Diaz scored both Hector Alvarez and 
Richard Rodriguez. 
Bryan Morales doubled Webber's lead with one swing of the bat the next inning after sending a line-drive over the wall in right field. Faulkner responded with a solo home run of their own in the sixth inning to make it a one-run game once again. The next half-inning, R. Rodriguez layed down a perfectly-placed sacrifice bunt to score 
Kris Allen and add an insurance run.
T. Diaz, Alvarez, and 
Josh Blackmore all ended the game 1-for-2 while T. Diaz added a team-high two RBI's. Both Morales and R. Rodriguez added an RBI each as well.
Dylan Martin started the third and final game of the series on the hill as he continued his dominant play to start the season, tossing 6.0 shutout innings and tallying four strikeouts. The final three innings were closed out by a combination of 
Eli Botelle, 
Thomas Lopez Jr., and 
Thomas Nelson who all threw an inning each.
Luis Acevedo brought home the first run of the game in the bottom of the first but the Warriors broke the game open in the fourth inning, starting with a solo home run by 
Drake Dobyanski, his third of the year. An RBI-double by Morales followed by a sacrifice-fly from Allen, earned Webber a 4-0 lead. In inning number six, R. Rodriguez brought home another run on a groundout to first base before a single up the middle from T. Diaz scored two more. The Warriors tacked on two more in the seventh courtesy of another solo shot by Morales and a RBI-single from 
Brodey Neveker.
Webber totaled 11 hits in the game as T. Diaz, Dobyanski, and Morales led the team with two hits each. Morales added two RBI's and led the team in runs scored with two.
This coming week, the Warriors will travel to Reinhardt University to take part int the Southeast Rumble. They will play two games on Thursday, February 16th, starting with a game against Campbellsville University at 12 p.m. followed by a matchup against No. 20 Reinhardt at 3 p.m. The following day, Webber will face William Carey University at 2 p.m.
