Babson Park, FL – The Warriors defeat the Spartans in mighty fashion to end their 2023 campaign 12-2. Three Warriors collected double digits to extend the Webber win streak to five.
Tyrone Nesby led Webber with his second straight 30-point game. The Las Vegas, NV native also grabbed eight boards, had one block, and one assist. On Nesby's performance, coach Rutledge said, "he [Nesby] shows up every day and competes at a high level, is one of the most competitive players, and attacks every day like it's his last" K'Shun Stokes netted 24 points, had six rebounds, and two assists. Eden Holt scored 12 points, seven rebounds, and six assists.
When asked about the win, Coach Gabriel Rutledge said, "It was a good solid win, and it is nice to be back in our gym". This is the last regular season game before heading into SUNC play. "Our record is great, but the real season starts next week when we head into conference play. Each of our teams is competitive, so it will not be easy, but we are planning to attack every It every day – every game- at a time. Go Warriors!"
Nesby got things started for the Warriors with a three-pointer to give the Warriors a 3-0. A quick rebound by Holt set Jordan Golden for a triple to extend the lead to 6. The Warriors went on a 14-10 run over the next five minutes. A dunk by Nesby kept the momentum in the Warriors' direction.
Over the next five minutes, Webber went on a 13-11 run, before back-to-back buckets by Nesby and Stokes gave the Warriors a double-digit lead. A layup from Jamar Ingram sent the Warriors to halftime up 47-37.
The Warriors opened the second half with the same energy as a jumper from Holt made it 49-37. The Spartans scored back-to-back baskets, before buckets by Nesby and O'Callaghan got the Warriors moving again. The teams traded points over the next five minutes as Nesby, Stokes, and Golden kept the Warriors ahead halfway through the second stanza.
Eight straight points from Stokes kept Webber's 75-66, before back-to-back triples from Cooper Peterson extended the lead to 15. 11 points by the Warriors was just enough to send WIU into the new year with a 12-2 record.
WIU will be back to action after a short break as they begin SUNC conference play in West Palm Beach, FL against the Seahawks of Keiser University.
