Warriors Breeze Past Saints With 26-Point Win

Lakeland, FL – Three Warriors drop double-digits as Webber defeated the Saints on Tuesday afternoon in dominant fashion. WIU moves to 10-2 on the season as Tyrone Nesby IV grabbed his eighth 20-point game of the season.

Nesby led the Warriors with 26 points, four rebounds, one assist, and a block. K'Shun Stokes netted 14 points, five rebounds, one assist and a steal. Cooper Peterson went 4-7 as he scored 11 points, two rebounds, and an assist.

Jordan Golden got things started for the Warriors, as he sank a free throw to give the Warriors an early 1-0 lead. Aquinas then responded with a three-pointer, before Nesby hit a three to keep the momentum in the Warriors' favor. Webber then went on an 11-4 run to gain their first double-digit lead just seven minutes into the game.

Over the next five minutes, WIU scored nine straight points, as the lead grew to 15. Buckets by Nesby, O'Callaghan, and Holt kept the Warriors ahead by 13 with five minutes left in the first half. Stokes and Nesby combined for the final six points of the half, sending the Warriors to the break up 42-25.

The Warriors opened the second half with four straight points by Nesby and Holt. The Saints made a few buckets to shorten the deficit to 14 before another Nesby three-pointer kept the Warriors ahead. WIU then went on a 15-13 run to make it 64-47 with 10 minutes left in the game.

Two straight Peterson three-pointers gave the Warriors a 19-point lead, before scores by Jamar Ingram, Golden, Peterson, and Stokes made it a swift 26-point difference. Webber outscored the Saints 11-6 in the final five minutes to complete their 10th win of the season.

Head Coach Gabriel Rutledge was proud of his team after the 26-point victory, saying, "We continue to battle through adversity and tonight was a huge win for us, one that I'm really happy about and proud of our group for the way we came out ready to play. We ran good offense, got good shots, got on the glass, and did a good job defending without fouling. As our program continues to mature, these are the types of wins that build character, build trust, and build belief in to the culture. We still have a long season ahead of us and I know our guys will continue to find ways to get better. Go Warriors!"

Webber will be back in action tomorrow, Wednesday, December 20th as they are set to host Mitchell College at 5:00 PM.
