Winter Haven, FL – Two Warriors drop double-digits as Webber dominantly defeats the Maple Leafs on Saturday afternoon. WIU moves to 9-2 on the season as Tyrone Nesby IV grabbed his seventh 20-point game of the season.
Eden Holt led the Warriors with 28 points, five rebounds, three steals, and two assists. Nesby netted 27 points, seven rebounds, one steal, and a block. Zachary O'Callaghan notched eight points and five steals, while Gavin Buchannon added six points, five rebounds, two assists, and a steal.
Nesby got things started for the Warriors, as he sank a bucket from the lane to give the Warriors an early 3-2 lead. Goshen then went on an 11-2 run before the Warriors scored six straight to make it a six-point game. A dunk by Dante Sofia shifted the momentum as Webber went on an 8-0 score through the next three minutes.
Holt grabbed seven of the Warriors' next 12 points to give Webber with five minutes left in the first half. GC responded with a layup before another Sofia dunk made it 34-32. Golden hit a layup to send the Warriors to halftime up 47-40.
The Warriors opened the second half with a double from Buchanon, coupled with a layup by O'Callaghan. Both teams traded baskets, before a jumper by Nesby and another layup by O'Callaghan kept the Warriors ahead by eight with 15 minutes left. A steal and fastbreak layup by Peterson extended the lead to 15 halfway through the second.
Webber netted 19 points in the final ten minutes of the game to coast past the Maple Leafs. With this, the Warriors grabbed their ninth win of the season, marking the best start in program history.
Webber will be back in action on Tuesday, December 19th as they are set to host Aquainas College at 5:00 PM.
