Warriors Secure Two Top 10 Finishes at Leatherneck Classic

Davenport, IA. - The Webber International Men's and Women's bowling team competed in the Leatherneck Classic this weekend in Davenport, IA looking to continue their impressive play to start the year. The Warriors battled tough throughout the entire tournament and were able to claim the men's fourth top five finish and the women's fourth top 10 finish of the season. Both Warrior squads earned spots in the single elimination tournament on day two, and the women's team notched a fourth-place finish and the men's finished off bracket play in fifth place to round out the Warriors weekend.
 
The Warrior men were led by sophomore Brandon Bohn who has been off to a hot start to open up this season, earning a top 70 finish in a field of over 400 bowlers. Bohn, following his all-tournament team honors last weekend, would knock over 967 pins with a game two high of 211 to help push the Warriors into the top five early on in the tournament. Austin Grammar was another reason for the Warriors success early on in the tournament boasting a 255 game three high with a 212-pin average on the weekend. Brett Lloyd also earned a top 150 finish in a huge field and helped lead the Warriors to a third-place finish in qualifying with a game two high of 254. The Warriors men would finish qualifying in third place with a pin total of 8,179 trailing just behind Saint Xavier and Wichita State to round out the top three going into day two. The Warriors would battle against McKendree University in the quarterfinals match, and they would just short earning a fifth-place finish in bracket play to finish off another successful weekend for the men's squad.
 
The Warrior women's team found themselves in familiar territory this weekend, earning another top 10 finish in qualifying and being led by senior players Jaqueline Witura and Jenna Williams through qualifying games. Witura would earn another top 25 finish in individuals this weekend with a game three high of 207, and 950 total pins through five games. Witura boasted a 190 game average and helped keep the Warriors firmly in the top 10 throughout the weekend. Williams also had a fantastic game three high of 222, earning a top 40 finish with a game average of 182. Aliyah Alleyne earned a top 75 finish to boost the Warriors into the top eight for qualifying with an excellent game four high of 188. The Warrior women would cap off qualifying with a seventh-place finish with a 7,273 overall pin total to earn them a spot in bracket play on day two. The Warrior women would face off against the second-place finishers in qualifying Wichita State to open up bracket play. The Warriors were able to battle hard take down the Shockers 202-142 in game one and 206-256 in game three to advance to the semifinals round. The Crimson Wave of Calumet College of St. Joseph were the Warriors next opponent, but the Warriors would fall to the Crimson Wave 176-133 in game one and 158-155 in a heartbreaking game two to finish their weekend with a fourth-place finish in bracket play.
 
The Warriors will have over a month to prepare for their next tournament in Las Vegas, NV at the Glen Carson Invitational on December 18th – December 19th.
