Rio Grande, OH – The Webber International Women's Basketball team traveled to Rio Grande, Ohio to compete in the Bevo Francis Invitational. In their first game, the Warriors matched up with the Saint Mary-Of-The-Woods Pomeroys. Webber fought tough but ultimately fell to SMWC, 86-63.
The Warriors kept with the Pomeroys in the first quarter. Jermasia Klopsis sank a free throw before Samantha Pacheco scored two baskets and a free throw for the first six points. Kori Wimberly got an offensive rebound and a putback layup, before Klopsis scored two more free throws and two more layups to end the first quarter with the Warriors down two, 16-14.
Pacheco and Wimberly opened the scoring for the Warriors in the second quarter to keep the Warriors in it 18-20. Klopsis and Jaiden Ross combined to tie the game at 22, before two free throws from Pacheco. Pacheco sank a three-pointer and two more free throws to end the first half with the score Webber 29, SMWC 39.
Wimberly and Pacheco both sank free throws at the start of the third. Wimberly got a layup to fall before Klopsis scored the next six for Webber on three straight layups. Pacheco and Wimberly had the next four for Webber on a jump shot and a layup. Danshelle Mickel hit a three to end the quarter with the Warriors down 56-47.
Klopsis scored first for Webber first on a jumper and then with a free throw. Wimberly then made a three off of the feed from Pacheco. Pacheco netted another assist on a layup from Triniti Lee. Wimberly made another layup, and soon after, Nevaeh Hillmon grabbed two points from the charity stripe. Lee made one more layup to finish the scoring for the Warriors to end the game 86-63 in favor of the Pomeroys.
Pacheco and Klopsis led the Warriors in scoring with 18 apiece, while Wimberly added 16. Pacheco had six assists and three rebounds, Klopsis had three assists and five rebounds, and Wimberly had three rebounds, one block and one steal.
The Warriors will be back in action on Saturday, November 11th, when they take on the Rio Grande Red Storm on the second day of the Bevo Farris Invitational.
