Warriors Chop Down Mighty Banyans in Season Opener

Winter Haven, FL – The Webber International Women's Basketball team opened their 2023-24 season with a 20-point victory over the New College of Florida Mighty Banyans. Three players reached double digits as the Warriors moved to 1-0 on the season.

Samantha Pacheco led the Warriors with 20 points, going 7-13 in the paint. Triniti Lee notched 10 points, while Alisha Walker grabbed a quiet 12 to close out the home opener 90-70.

Webber opened up the game slowly, as a three-pointer by Lee gave the Warriors a two-point lead two minutes into the game. The two swapped leads before Webber barreled ahead after a three-pointer from Kori Wimberly. The Warriors would end the first half with a leading 16-11.

The Banyans scored to open the second quarter, still trailing the Warriors by two. A jumper by Jaidan Ross kept Webber ahead by seven with three minutes left in the half. A two-score run by Jasmine Henry sent the Warriors to the half up by six.

After half time, Jermasia Klopsis' layup started the scoring as the Warriors led by eight early in the third quarter. A three-score run by Pacheco gave Webber a 14-point lead. Scores by Henry, Ross, and Lee kept the Warriors ahead by nine going into the final quarter of play.

Walker started the fourth quarter with a basket and one to make it a 12-point lead. Klopsis sunk three straight jumpers to keep the Warriors ahead. Another Pacheco three-pointer extended the lead to eight with just under five minutes left in the game. The Warriors would then score seven points to finish the night with a swift 20-point win over the Banyans.

The Warriors will be back to action on Thursday, November 3rd as they travel to Montgomery, AL to compete in the SUN/Southern States Crossover tournament.
