Wauwatosa, WI - The Webber International Women's and Men's bowling teams opened up their 2023-24 season this past weekend as they traveled up to Wauwatosa, WI to compete in the Midwest Collegiate Championship. Linda Himes claimed her first individual tournament crown after knocking over 1,300 pins through six games. After an impressive day one of qualifying games, both teams finished in first place in their respective brackets, and qualified for the day two single elimination bracket play. The Women's team would advance all the way to the finals match, while the Men were able to make it to the semi-final round.
The Warriors traveled six women up to Wauwatosa this weekend as they looked to open up their season in winning fashion. The women were led by Himes and Aliyan Alleyene who claimed all-tournament honors. Himes finished in first with a total 1,320 pins through six games. Alleyene clipped 1,234 pins to round out the top-five for the Warriors, as she finished fourth. A 236 in game four gave Jenna Williams her first top-10 finish of the season, A 15th place finish from Jaqueline Witura was all the Warriors needed to secure first place after day one. The Warriors knocked 6,007 pins through the six team games as Himes earned tournament MVP for the first time this year.
Day one was also successful for the mens team as AJ Wolstenholme grabbed fifith place after hitting 1,370 pins throughout his six games. The Senior clipped 244 pins in the fourth game to solidify his all-tournament honor of the season.
The women and men's team both continued their excellent play from the day before and finished first in their respective field with the women recording a 9,072 overall pin total and the men finishing with a 9,877 overall pin total to head into bracket play as the number one seeded team in the tournament.
Both teams held their first place spot through four baker games giving the women a 353 pin advantage and the men 66 pins ahead going into bracket play. The men's team faced Marian in their quarter final matchup and the Warriors would win 268-190 and 185-171 to advance to the semifinal round. After a battle, the Warriors would drop the semifinal match 244-217 and 216-181 to finish their weekend with a fourth-place finish.
The Warriors women battled St. Ambrose in the first round of the bracket and they were able to strike past them to advance to play Coe College in the semi-final round. The Warriors worked sparingly to defeat the Kohawks to play Whitewater in the finals. After exchanging leads, the Warriors would grab their first second place finish of the year.
The Warriors will be back in the lanes this weekend as they will travel up to Savannah, GA to compete in the SCAD Shootout on October 14
th – October 15
th.
