Warriors Blank Lions in SUNC Matchup


Babson Park, FL - After a strong defensive game, the Warriors collected a 4-0 victory over SUNC foe Florida Memorial on Wednesday afternoon. Webber is now 3-6-2 on the season, and improves to 2-4-1 in sun conference play. 

The Warriors had 11 total shots with six being on frame. Ruben Marquez led the way with two goals and three shots. Matthew Loo and Noah Setterberg follow closely with one shot a piece. David Gomez and Gabe Shelton round out the offensive front with one and three shots respectively. 

Florida Memorial began with a fast break, taking a shot in the 90 seconds. A foul on the Lions would set the Warriors up for a penalty kick by Marquez which fell right passed the goalie, giving WIU the 1-0 lead. The Lions would then take five consecutive shots, none of which made it in the net. Shelton took back to back shots in the 28th minute, both were blocked. Marquez would take the final shot in the first half for the Warriors that missed high to go into halftime 1-0.

The Warriors came out with a vengeance in the second half, scoring three goals within the first 18 minutes. A strong defensive Warrior front held the Lions to just seven shots, four in the last 20 minutes which were saved by Parkinson. With this, the Warriors collect their second conference win. 
 

The Warriors will be back to action on Saturday, October 7th as they head to take on #15 Keiser.
