Dynamic Warriors Offense Too Much For Gyrenes

Ave Maria, FL – The Webber International University men's soccer team traveled down to Ave Maria University for their last regular season game to face off with the Gyrenes. The Warriors saw multiple goal scorers this game with a 5-2 win, improving their record to and 5-8-1 in the conference and clenching a post-season birth.

The Gyrenes kicked of the match with the first shot just 17 seconds in, but it was blocked by the Warriors defense. Ave Maria took two more shots before David Gomez took the first shot for the Warriors, which went wide. Gabe Shelton is credited the first goal of the match 20 minutes in with the assist from Emanuel Barajas. Ben Parkinson made his first save of the match 23 minutes in. The Warriors took five more in the first half, two of which forced the Ave Maria goalkeeper to make the save for. The Warriors went into halftime with the lead over the Gyrenes 1-0.

Samer Jawhari scored the first goal of the second half five minutes in. This fueled the Warriors as Ruben Marquez scored a penalty kick just one minute later. Hungry for more, the Warriors kept putting pressure on the Gyrenes' defense until Eskil Prackel scored the fourth goal for the Warriors in the 58th minute. Marquez took one more shot for the Warriors before Ave Maria scored their first goal of the match in the 67th minute. The Gyrenes would attempt another goal just one minute later, but Parkinson stepped in and made the save. Gabe Shelton and Rafael Cagnin attempted header shots back-to-back, but the Ave Maria Goalkeeper saved them both. Marco De Rosa scored the last goal for the Warriors, but the Gyrenes ended the game with one more goal in the 84th minute. The Warriors ended their regular season with a 5-2 victory over the Gyrenes. 

Parkinson spent the entire 90 minutes in the net, tallying a total of five saves. The Warriors totaled 19 shots for the entire match with 11 of them being on goal.

The Warriors are heading into postseason as they  are set to take on the Southeastern Fire in the opening round of the SUNC tournament.
