Lakeland, FL – The Webber International University men's soccer team traveled to Southeastern University to faceoff against the RV Fire in the quarterfinals of the Sun Conference Tournament. The Warriors ended their 2023-2024 season with a 3-0 loss and finished with an overall record of 6-11-2 and a Sun Conference record of 5-9-1.
The first half of the match was a defensive battle for both teams as the Warriors were only able to get two shots off while the Fire was able to take four.
Gabe Shelton and
Joden Gallardo were responsible for the Warriors' shots. Shelton's attempt went wide while Gallardo's went high. Out of the four shots that Southeastern took, two resulted in a goal. The Fire's first goal was scored in the sixth minute and the second one was scored in the 28th minute. The Warriors defense held the Fire at bay for the remainder of the half.
Ben Parkinson made one save to keep the score at 2-0 for halftime.
Jesus Sanchez took the first shot of the second half. However, Southeastern put their final goal on the board five minutes in. The Warriors defense held off the Fire for the remainder of the match, not allowing them to score another goal.
Ruben Marquez attempted to decrease the deficit in the 59th minute with a shot, but the Southeastern goalkeeper made the save. Marquez attempted another shot one minute later, but it went wide. Gallardo forced the goalkeeper to make another save in the 63rd minute with a shot. The Warriors did not let off the brakes as they took five more shots before the match ended.
The Warriors totaled 11 shots with three of them being on goal while Parkinson tallied three saves for match.
