TEMPLE TERRACE, Fla. (January 25, 2023) – The Webber International University men's basketball team traveled for a non-conference matchup against No. 21 Florida College, facing it for the second time this season on Tuesday night. The Warriors fell behind early and were unable to come back as they fell to the Falcons, 99-76.
Â
The Warriors (14-7 overall) struggled offensively as they shot just 36.7 percent from the floor, compared to the 60.7 percent of Florida College (16-3 overall).
Â
The Falcons led from start to finish as they got off to a quick start and scored at a torrid pace in the first half. Webber fell behind 11-3 after the opening few minutes but responded with a 9-4 run to cut the deficit to three points. Florida College knocked down a number of shots to extend their lead yet again. The Falcons continued to keep their foot on the gas as they gradually grew their lead to as many as 24 points at the halftime break.
Â
The second half was much more competitive from the Warriors as they outscored the Falcons 43-42 in the half. The deficit was too great, however, as Webber was unable to close the gap.
Â
The Warriors were led by
K'Shun Stokes who scored 22 points on 47 percent shooting. Stokes also tied his season-high of four three-pointers made in a game while tying with
Chinecherem Anukaenyi for a team-high six rebounds in the game.
Eddie Davis followed behind with 16 points and four rebounds on the night. Freshman
Jyshaun Melvin ended with nine points and four rebounds while
