Warriors Defeat Florida National and Florida College; Extend Win Streak to Nine

BABSON PARK, Fla. (September 9, 2022) - The Webber International University women's volleyball team hosted a tri-match against Florida National University and Florida College on Thursday in the Sabbagh Athletic Center. The Warriors defeated FNU 3-1 (19-25, 25-23, 25-15, 25-21) before later taking down the Falcons 3-1 (25-18, 25-17, 23-25, 25-22).

"I love watching these girls play," said Head Coach Allyson Moorman. "They have found the winning mentality and they want nothing less. In both matches, Amanda and Paysee did an outstanding job moving the ball around, allowing our hitters to be successful. It was a great night for the team all around and we can't wait to carry this momentum into conference play next weekend."

The Warriors (9-4 overall) would first face the Conquistadors of Florida National (1-9 overall). Webber would have a slow start to the first set and eventually come up short to FNU, 25-19. In set number two, the Warriors would grow into the match and find their footing offensively. Late in the set, trailing by one at 23-22, Webber would be forced to take a timeout. Coming out of the timeout, the Warriors would score three-straight to win the set thanks to kills from Cintia Lorena, Bailey Sikkema, and Tanasha Cooksey.

Roughly halfway through set three, Webber would hold an 11-10 lead before they would catch fire, going on a 14-5 run to end the set. Florida National would try to battle back over the course of the fourth set, but with the set tied at 12, the Warriors would score six-straight points to regain control and see out the victory.

Lorena was dominant offensively, leading the team with 16 kills followed by Sikkema with 11 and Cooksey with nine. Amanda Vega would tally a season-high 24 assists and 18 digs for her second double-double of the season. Paysee Crow would end the match with 17 assists to go with her five kills. Bailey Berger would lead the Warriors with 20 digs with Vega following close behind with 18.Cooksey would lead the team with four total blocks followed by Crow with two.

Webber would face Florida College (6-6 overall) in match number two. The Warriors would keep their offensive prowess going into the next match, winning both of the first two sets comfortably. The Falcons would fight back in the third set, leading by as many as seven at 15-8. Webber would battle back within one at 24-23, but a kill from the Falcons would see them cut the lead to 2-1. The Warriors would take an early 9-3 lead over Florida College in set number four. The Falcons would eventually fight back to tie the set at 16 apiece, however, a 6-1 run from the Warriors would put them back in the driver's seat to see out the set victory and take the 3-1 victory.

Sikkema would lead the team in kills this time around with 17 in total, followed by Teodora Ranitovic with 11 and Lorena with nine. Sikkema would also lead the team in digs with a career-high 21, to earn her third double-double of the season. Nadia Reid would also finish the match with seven kills. Vega would earn a double-double for the second match in a row with 23 assists and 18 digs. She would be followed by Crow with 15 assists while adding six kills. Ranitovic would tally a total of four blocks followed by Sikkema, Lorena, and Savannah Wilhite each with two.

Next up, The Warriors travel to Johnson University - Florida to take on the Suns on Thursday, September 15th at 6 p.m. The team will then return home for their Sun Conference-opener on Saturday, September 17th, when they battle the Ave Maria University Gyrenes.
