Women’s Volleyball Win Streak Reaches 10 After Defeating Johnson

KISSIMMEE, Fla. (September 16, 2022) – The Webber International University women's volleyball team took on the Johnson University Suns in its penultimate non-conference matchup of the season, resulting in a 3-0 (27-25, 25-7, 25-17) victory on Thursday night.

The Warriors (10-4 overall) hit a very efficient .348 percent for the match while Johnson (2-6 overall) was held to just .075 percent.

Set number one proved to be the most competitive of the three as the Suns would hold a 10-9 lead before a 5-0 run from the Warriors would hand them the lead at 14-10. Johnson would battle back as the set went on and every time Webber would take the lead, the Suns would match it.  Johnson held the advantage at 25-24 before three-straight scores that included a kill from Bailey Sikkema and a service ace from Bailey Berger would end the set, giving the Warriors a 1-0 lead.

It would be smooth sailing for the Warriors in the second set as they would jump out to a 7-0 lead and never look back. The offense found its rhythm and it fueled them to a straight-forward victory in set two, 25-7.

The Warriors would hold a four-point lead at 9-5 early on in the third set before an 8-0 run would put them way out front, 17-5. The run included four service aces from Nadia Reid and two kills from Teodora Ranitovic. The Suns fought back within six points (22-16), but Webber would hang on for the set and match victory.

Webber's win streak now extends to 10 games, its longest since 2018 when it won 13-straight matches. Over the last ten matches, the Warriors have dropped just two sets out of 32 total.

The Warriors now head to Sun Conference action as they host the Gyrenes of Ave Maria University on Saturday, September 17, at 2 p.m. inside the Sabbagh Athletic Center.
