Women's Volleyball Falls to Florida National, 3-1

HIALEAH, Fla. (September 23, 2022) - The Webber International University women's volleyball team traveled to Florida National University to take on the Conquistadors for the second time this season on Friday night. After defeating FNU at home earlier this season, the Warriors suffered defeat this time around, 3-1 (15-25, 25-20, 25-14, 25-19).

The Warriors (11-6 overall) had a strong first set but would struggle offensively the remainder of the match, hitting .050 percent. Florida National (3-9) out hit Webber in both hitting percentage (.148) and number of kills (37).

Webber took an early three point lead and slowly begin building upon it as the set progressed. With an 11-8 lead, the Warriors then went on an 11-4 run that gave them a commanding lead. A timeout from the Conquistadors would be unable to stall Webber's momentum as they took a victory in set number one.

Florida National got the hot start in the second set, quickly getting ahead 7-3. The Conquistadors led by as many as 10 before the Warriors went on a 9-3 run to battle back within four at 23-19. It was too little too late however as FNU sealed the set victory and tie the match, 1-1. It would be more of the same in the third and fourth sets as FNU took early leads and never looked back, winning the third set, 25-14, and the fourth an final set, 25-19.

The Warriors were led by Cintia Lorena with five kills followed by Nadia Reid with four and Andrea Padilla three. Paysee Crow had a team-high eight assists with Amanda Vega following close behind with seven. Defensively, Bailey Berger finished with a total of seven digs and Kiersten Tisdale ended with six. Sophomore Delanie Johnson would lead the Warriors with two total blocks.

Webber concludes non-conference action with a record of 10-5 and an overall record of 11-6. It will be a short turnaround for the Warriors as they now travel to West Palm Beach, Florida to face the Seahawks of Keiser University for the first time this season on Saturday, September 24th, at 2 p.m.
