Warriors Defeat Royals, 2-0, in Final Non-Conference Matchup

LAKE WALES, Fla. (September 21, 2022) - The Webber International University men's soccer team traveled to Warner University to face their Crooked Lake rivals in what was the first leg of the Crooked Lake Cup and the final non-conference match of the season. The Warriors would earn a 2-0 victory on the road to extend their current win-streak to five matches.

The Warriors (5-0-0 overall) had the majority of opportunities in the match with 15 total shots, eight of which were on goal. Meanwhile, the Royals (3-3-0) were held to 10 total shots and only three of which were on goal.

It did not take long for the Warriors to get on the board as they would score with their first shot in the 6th minute, via a solo-effort from Alon Firdman. It was the fourth goal of the season for Firdman and his third in the last two matches. Despite earning an early 1-0 lead, it would be the Royals who had the majority of shots for the remainder of the first half. However, the Webber defense would hold strong, blocking two shots at the source and three of which would be saved by goalkeeper Gianni Honsel.

Webber would double its lead in the 66th minute thanks to a solo-goal from sophomore Marc Bonafe for his second of the season. The Warriors would clamp down defensively for the entirety of the second half, allowing just three shots in total. They held strong and maintained the 2-0 victory and the shutout as well.

The Warriors end non-conference play with a perfect 5-0 record and will open Sun Conference action on Saturday, September 24th, when they travel to take on the SCAD-Savannah Bees at 1 p.m.
