BABSON PARK, Fla. (September 16, 2022) – The Webber International University men's soccer team hosted the Eagles of Trinity Baptist College on Thursday afternoon. The Warriors would assert their dominance with five first-half goals en route to a 6-0 victory at home.
Â
The Warriors (4-0-0 overall) had their quality on full display, firing off a total of 36 shots, only 10 of which would be on goal however. Trinity Baptist (0-4-2 overall) was limited in its opportunity thanks to the strong defensive work of Webber, having just six shots in total.
Â
The first goal of the match came just over eight minutes in, as
Dozie Ozo-Udeze would burst into the 18-yard box and send a perfectly placed cross onto the foot of the arriving
Alon Firdman for an easy tap-in at the back post. Ozo-Udeze would find Firdman again four minutes later to double the lead for Webber.
Â
In the 19th minute, Firdman turned provider as he found freshman
Ruben Marquez for his first collegiate goal. Following a corner kick from the Warriors in the 25th minute, a deflected ball off of a Eagles defender landed in the path of
Isaac Thomas who would head it into the side netting for a 4-0 lead.
Â
Less than a minute before halftime,
Jesus Chillon would have a one-on-one opportunity with the goalie but would unselfishly lay it across goal to
Jesus Sanchez for the score. The lone second-half goal came on a Warriors' corner kick from
Sebastian Lago in the 71st minute that freshman
Michael Brietz would head home to make it a six-goal lead.
Â
Firdman led the way offensively with two goals and an assist for five points on the day. Ozo-Udeze tallied two assists followed by Chillon and Lago each with one.
Â
The Warriors remain unbeaten against the Eagles all-time with a record of 5-0. Next up, Webber travels for its final non-conference match of the season, albeit against a familiar foe, Warner University. Kick-off is set for 5 p.m. on Tuesday, September 20th, in Lake Wales, Florida.
