Sikkema's Double-Double Helps Warriors Sweep Florida College

TEMPLE TERRACE, Fla. (August 31, 2022) – The Webber International University women's volleyball team traveled to Temple Terrace, Florida to battle the Falcons of Florida College and in a dominant performance, would earn the 3-0 (25-17, 27-25, 25-21) sweep.
 
The Warriors (1-5 overall) held the advantage in terms of hitting percentage at .122% compared to the -.015% of the Falcons (3-3 overall).
 
Webber would take no time asserting their dominance in the match, jumping out to an early 8-1 lead and extending it yet further to 13-3. Florida College would battle back in the set, cutting the deficit to just five at 18-13. The Warriors would hold off any attempts at a comeback and take the first set 25-27.
 
The second set would prove to be much closer as after being tied at nine, the Falcons would score three-straight to take a 12-9 lead. They would slowly build upon that lead as the set continued, eventually leading by as many as five at 20-15. Two 3-0 runs from the Warriors would bring them within one at 22-21. Webber would score three-in-a-row yet again to hold game-point, 24-23, before the Falcons would score twice to retake the lead at 25-24. Two attack errors from the Falcons followed by a kill from Nadia Reid would seal the set two victory for the Warriors.
 
Florida College would not go down easily, however, as in set number three, they would gradually take a 15-12 lead over Webber. A 5-2 run from the Warriors would level the set at 17-17. Down by one Two kills from Bailey Sikkema followed by one from Reid would break the deadlock and give Webber a 23-19 lead. The Warriors would hang on to complete the sweep.
 
Sikkema would lead the Warriors in both kills and digs with 12 and 17 respectively for her second double-double of the season. Reid followed behind with six kills and Savannah Wilhite finished with four. Amanda Vega would lead the team in assists with 19 followed by Paysee Crow with nine.
 
Defensively, Vega would follow Sikkema in digs with 16 of her own while Reid would end with 12. Cintia Lorena rack up a season-high four total blocks, followed by Teodora Ranitovic with three total blocks.
 
The Warriors will now travel to Macon, Georgia to take on Wesleyan College on Friday, September 2nd, at 5 p.m. which will be followed by another match at 6:30 p.m. against the hosts, Middle Georgia State University.
