MOUNT VERNON, Ga. (August 27, 2022) – The Webber International University women's soccer team opened its 2022 campaign with a 1-0 road victory over Brewton-Parker College on Friday night.
The Warriors (1-0) outshot the Barons (0-1) 15-2 in total shots and 9-2 in shots on target for the match.
The lone goal of the game came from the foot of senior
Brazil Clark just over six minutes into the game after stealing the ball from the Baron-defense and slotting it past the outstretched arms of the keeper, giving the Warriors an early 1-0 lead.
The Warriors back line would stand strong in the first half allowing just two shots on goal, both of which would be saved by
Cameron Laine in net. Webber would have many more opportunities to score throughout the first and second halves but it would be unable to capitalize and extend the lead.
An even better second-half defensive performance from the Warriors would see them keep the Barons from getting even a single shot off. Webber would hold its 1-0 lead for the rest of the match, seeing out its season-opening victory.
Clark led the team offensively with one goal and two shots on target. She was followed by
Solimar Hernandez who led the team with three total shots. Laine would spend all 90 minutes in goal for the Warriors, picking up two saves.
The Warriors now have a one-day break before traveling to Birmingham, Alabama where they will face Division-III opposition in the form of Birmingham-Southern College at 12 p.m. on Sunday, August 28.
