Pitching shines in 2-0 shutout of No. 9 Westmont

LEWISTON, Idaho (May 29, 2022) - A lights-out pitching performance from Xavier Rodriguez and Dawson Young would fuel the Webber International University baseball team to a 2-0 shutout of No. 9 Westmont College.

X. Rodriguez would start on the mound for the Warriors (42-21). The junior would toss seven innings, not allowing a single run and just four hits while punching out eight. Young would enter the game in the eighth inning, allowing two hits and striking out five of the nine batters he would face to earn the save and complete the shutout.

Webber's only two runs of the game would come in the first inning with one swing of the bat from Bryan Eusebio. After a leadoff single from Drake Dobyanski, Westmont (45-13) would then walk Kenny Rodriguez. A single to right field by Tyren Milliner would load the bases with nobody out. Eusebio would then single through the left side, scoring both Dobyanski and K. Rodriguez to earn the Warriors an early 2-0 lead.

The Warriors would have just one other hit for the remainder of the game, however, X. Rodriguez and Young would combine for a shutout. The two combined for 13 strikeouts and just six hits allowed. X. Rodriguez would earn his eighth win of the season whil Young picked up save number three on the year.

Offensively, Webber was led by Eusebio who ended 1-for-4 with two RBI's. Aside from the singles by Dobyanski and Milliner, Josh Blackmore would have the only other hit in the game for the Warriors.

Next up, the Warriors will now face No. 10 Georgia Gwinnett College on Monday, May 30, at 2:30 PM eastern. Webber matched up against the Grizzlies earlier in the season and were defeated in game one, 10-6, in 12 innings before taking game two, 1-0. The deciding game three of the series was canceled due to weather.
