Warriors' bats heat up in 11-5 victory over Grizzlies

LEWISTON, Idaho (May 30, 2022) - The Webber International University baseball team matched up against No. 10 Georgia Gwinnett College in the third game of its World Series journey thus far. After scoring just two runs in each of the first two games, the Warriors heated up offensively in an 11-5 victory over the Grizzlies.

The starting pitcher for the Warriors (43-21) would be Drake Kasparek. He would make his 15th start of the season, throwing three innings and allowing three runs on six hits while striking out three. Rey Rodriguez would enter the game to throw the next three innings, giving up just two hits before Praxie Vigil would enter the game in relief to finish out the final third of the game.

Georgia Gwinnett (46-16) would draw first blood in the bottom of the first after a couple of RBI-singles would earn them an early 2-0 lead. The Warriors would respond in the top of the second after a double to right-center field by Angel Diaz would bring home Luis Acevedo. An RBI from Richard Rodriguez followed by another RBI-single by Josh Blackmore in the inning would earn Webber a 3-2 lead. The next inning, the Warriors would tack on three more that included a double to left-center from Ri. Rodriguez, scoring Ian Kalman to extend the lead to 6-2.

The Grizzlies would walk home another run in the fourth, but would score in the bottom half to get back within four runs at 7-3. In the top of the seventh, Webber would have yet another three-run inning that would include an RBI-single to left field from Tyren Milliner. A sacrifice fly by Drake Dobyanski the next inning would give the Warriors an 11-3 lead. Georgia Gwinnett would score its final two runs of the game in the bottom of the eighth on a two-run home run, but Webber would hold on for the victory.

The Warriors advance to the next round where they will face one of Southeastern, LSU Shreveport, Faulkner, or Lewis-Clark State. First pitch for their next matchup will take place tomorrow, May 31, at 6 p.m. eastern time.
