MARIETTA, GA. – On a sunny Thursday in Marietta, Georgia, the Webber International University women's lacrosse team struggled to find the back of the cage against the No. 7 Life University Running Eagles, resulting in a 21-8 loss in its second-to-last game of the season.
While the Running Eagles (14-4 overall, 4-2 MSC) took the first draw control from the Warriors (6-10 overall, 1-4 MSC), Samantha Esher would feed the ball to Bryce Gerber, who would score the first goal of the game. Life would return the favor and even the scoring plane moments later, Geber would again put another ball in the cage, regaining the lead for the Warriors at 2-1. However, the first quarter would conclude with a score of 3-2 in favor of the Running Eagles as they would score two goals back-to-back.
The second quarter started off with three goals from Life before Lauren Dombroski would score off an assist by Esher. Life would then put up another three points on the board before Kaitlyn Patterson found the back of the net and then Esher with her first goal of the game a few minutes later. Esher's goal would conclude the half with a score of 9-5 with the Warriors trailing behind. The third quarter was a struggle for the Warriors as they only scored one goal by Esher. Patterson would score the first goal of the fourth quarter and Natalie Bartek would pass the ball to Victoria Orozco, who would score the final goal for the Warriors. The game concluded with a score of 21-8.
Esher, Patterson, and Gerber led the Warriors offense with two goals a piece and Dombroski and Orozco with one a piece. Patterson also led the Warriors in ground balls with four and Dombroski, Alexia Allen, Jordyn Davison, Ayame Macedo, and Courtnie Couch trailed behind with two. Couch created three caused turnovers while Natalie Baumgarten and Bartek had to caused turnover a piece. Davidson ended her 60 minutes in the cage with 20 saves.
The Warriors will go into their final conference game Saturday, April 16, as they travel down to West Palm Beach, Florida to face off against No. 5 Keiser University at 3 p.m.
